Ok, well at work yesterday I noticed something. It was the behaiviour of people. At my job (and Arbies employee), I am required to "close down" the lobby. That basically means, sweep/mop the tiled floors and vacuum the carpeted floors. Here is a diagram of the floors I have to clean and what is broken into what:
So, that's the general diagram of what I had to do. So I got an early start on cleaning and a couple hours later I was fully finished... Except for 1/6th of the room. A little bit left to vacuum. Now, I had to go back up to switch out towels and a person came by. We aren't supposed to vacuum with customers, and even if we do vaccum, it needs to be on the opposite side of the room. Here is the 1/6th I still had left to vacuum:
Ok. So here I am, ringing up Guy 1's order. Now, I had ALL the cleaning supplies in the middle of the floor of where I was cleaning at, so it showed what my intentions were. Now, Guy 1 goes and sits down at THE EXACT spot where I was just about to clean. So, I have to wait for Guy 1 to finish eating, and then I get ready to
go finish the cleaning (it was about 15 minutes for him to finish). So, I am about to go when Lady 1 comes in and orders. Well, just like Guy 1, she goes to the SAME SPOT Guy 1 ate at. And like I said, cleaning supplies are right there... In the middle of the hallway. Lady 1 finishes (about 15 minutes) and heads off. Then, Guy 2 comes in. He orders and goes to the other side. Feeling relived that I can now finish this off, I go to clean, but realize I need to go switch out my towel. Now, as I go back, Guy 2 walks across the room to the spot behind where Guy 1 and Lady 1 ate! It is also in the section I have to clean. Irritated at this point that it's about 45 minutes (guy 2 took about 15 minutes to eat as well), to clean this one, simple little spot Lady 1 gets up to leave. Finally Guy(s) 3&4 come in. They go to the same area, but to my luck, one table above where I need to clean. Here is a diagram of the people and where they went:

As I am observing all of this (needless to say I am slightly frustrated since it IS the last cleaning duty I have to do before I can leave), I wondered, "how do people think?". Now, if I had gone to a restaurant and seen a bunch of cleaning supplies on one side, personally I would have went to a different area. But clearly there is something that attracted the people to this spot. If it was a subconsious "let's see if this will annoy someone" or not, I found it interesting. Because not was it only 1, but 5 people, one after another, that did the same thing. I just found it slightly interstesting to think about. Maybe something DOES click in our brains that we don't realize... Hmmm... Probably won't ever know.
