So, this is something that I felt God was tugging at my heart about. With all that's happened with Haiti, it's been the big thing to pray, donate, and generally support Haiti. But what will happen a year from now? Will we forget about the tragedy that happened their and worry about our social circles, government, or general life instead?
Here are a few dates to ponder on:
11, September, 2001. Planes hit the World Trade Centers killing around 3,000 people.
26, December 2004. A giant wave, that was triggered by an 9.2 magnitude earthquake, came and basically destroyed a huge section of Malaysia. An estimated 230,000 people died from the horrific accident.
12, January, 2010. A devastating earthquake occurs in Haiti, with predictions of 100,00 dead.
Here is an interesting view. HOW often do you HEAR of the tsunami victims? Of course it's been 6 years from the accident, but does that still count to all the thousands of people that lost loved ones like fathers, brothers, mothers, sisters, children, aunts and uncles, grandparets, etc. The list goes ON! Do we have the right mind to thing that almost a quarter of a million people died and 6 years has fixed such a tragedy? The World Trade Center attacks killed almost 3,000 and we DEDICATE a DAY to prayer! Now I am not saying this is a bad thing, because it is, in fact, a tremendously glorious thing that a single day is devoted to such a tragedy. But here is the question: Why didn't we do it to the victims of the earthquake? Are their cries of help not as important as the people who lost families in the terroristic attacks that fateful day? Or is it because it happened here, on our soil, that makes it more important?
I have loved the movement that has happened towards Haiti. It's a great thing to see God moving in so many lives to reach out to these people in need. Providing assistance, medical needs, food, shelter, missionaries, etc. It has opened a great new mission ground to show the people the glory of God. But what I fear is will Haiti just end up being a event on the wall like the tsunami victims. In a year, six years, TWELVE years, will we STILL be praying for them?
The effects of such an accident goes many generations down. Entire lineages were lost. Families are split apart...Forever. It is something that it takes countless of years before it is fixed. But like the tsunami victims, will we forget about them? Have we become a generation of Christians that end up wanting things to happen so fast we FORGET about the people who are in desperate need and STILL are crying out for Christ? When do we become a generation that lives for Christ that goes PAST this "must happen now" mentality and go spread Christ's love to the people who are crying out for Him. Who need something to put their faith upon and He is the answer they are looking for after facing such a tragety? When will we get over our selfishness of thinking we are protected and devote our lives to His calling to help those people who are in need? It's lately been my prayers to pray for not only the Haiti victims, but also the people who have also experienced other tragedies. So, let me finally ask my main question: Will we be praying for Haiti a year from now?
Will we be praying for Haiti a year from now?

Now it's funny, even the smallest of snows cancel our schools (don't laugh at us if you are from the north! It's true!). So, that makes for a fun snow-day for everyone. So today we got a little bit of snow, and I decided to go take some pictures and share them.
Thanks to my friends for making 2009 great!

I mention friends and talk a little about how each one of you have helped to create such a great year. I usually try to skip adults, but you guys have so much thanks I could write a novel about you guys. Also, if your not mentioned you guys mean so much to me as well, but I have to keep this only to a certain length. All of you guys helped make this year great and to everyone that had interaction with me this year, there is so much I could say about all of you.(Note: Please don't look into the order of named as how I view you guys in how close you guys are...It's just however I feel like mentioning you)
Andrew: Man, I feel like I should start off with you since you are probably one of the easiest to talk about (heck, we've known each other for like....Forever). We have had so many memories from blood in a tent, to playing hours upon end on Runescape trying to compete against each other, to making so many stupid, random video, to all that we have just done. You have been one of my closest friends for a long time who I trust fully. This last year has been a really great one with everything from graduation to our first year at college. Through it all, I've been glad to have you by my side as a close friend. You have always been one of those friends I can always open up to with about anything to just be completely goofy with. Even talking about life, love, girls (haha), and such at 2 a.m. on the side of a bank at night is one of those small things that just was a great memory from this year. Stay awesome man, and good luck with your upcoming year. It will be challenging and difficult (especially with Marine training), but with determination, perseverance, and God you will manage. Oh, and BE SURE to write while you are there! If you don't I will sick a angry llama with rabies on you! So just saying, you have BEEN WARNED! :). But in all seriousness, I hope our friendship will stay strong as it always has been the upcoming years, and I hope to have many more great memories with you!
Michael: If I was ever to have a younger brother, I would hope it would be you. You have really been a very good friend to me this year through everything that has happened. There has been many times this year I was in need of a friend I could just talk to, and you have been there to listen, which really meant a lot. I loved all the random memories from this year we made from Fruity Cheerios to making random "Slow and Serious" videos. It's been fun, and maybe this next year I will be good enough to own you at Brawl! Mwahahaha! But In all seriousness I wish the best for you in this upcoming year with college and such. And I know that if I ever need anyone to talk to about anything from geek stuff to girls, I can count on you :). Good luck with the rest of your senior year, and good luck with the future. And hopefully our schedules will work out this Spring to where we are able to chill at SPSU a bit. Because we so should see what mischief we can cause to SPSU! But hopefully the upcoming year will be full of great memories (and randomness...It breaks the cycle :P).
Cassidy: You have been one of the most helpful of my friends this year. I know there have been many times I probably have gotten on your nerves this year, and I apologize for that. But thanks for being such a great friend to me in so much. This year, there were several times I really needed a friend to talk to (you know what times I am talking about) and you were there for me. This really meant a lot to me for your help in a couple situations where I just needed to talk to someone. You are probably one of my most trusted friends that I know that if I ever need to talk to anyone about anything about, you will be there for me. Also, I know the struggles with school and such you are going through, and I just want to say stick in there! I know you have the talent and perseverance to go through and once this school-year is over, it should get a lot easier. This is one of the hardest years of High-School you are going through and it's tough. But keep the good fight. There have been many good memories this year with you in them, and I hope there will be many next year. Thing ranging from whitewater rafting (I really didn't mean to fall on you just so you know! I tried to get down, but didn't in time haha) to things like B2B. Hopefully the next year (and years to come) we will stay good friends. Because I know then when I need some sense knocked into me, I can always come to you Elmira :).
Blake: BLA! Or Blaked Bread haha! It's been a fun year! Filled with many things from late-night spend-the-nights (oh the memories from those!) to senior camping trips. It was good having you as my friend this last year because you were the friend I could always go to for cheering up, or just wanting to hang out with someone with such a perky attitude. Good luck this upcoming year with all your classes at Tech (and maybe, just maybe we could end up as roomates if our little plan works out :D) and be sure to survive. Because I can't even imagine how tough those classes will be for you. Also, we NEED to be sure to hang out more often because life is getting boring with you at college and such (not many people would do things such as naked barbie fights haha) and just general stuff like that. Also, you me, and Michael need to do a sequel to the Llamas With Hats before you go back! But in all seriousness, you are a really good friend who I can always rely on whenever I need to. And I hope our friendship will remain as strong (and random) in the upcoming year!
Mallory: Cousin Mallory! Well, like Andrew, I have probably known you the second longest out of all the original friends I made at HEDGE. Heck knows we have been through a lot in our many years of friendship, but it's been fun. This last year seemed a little... More empty since you weren't at HEDGE instead of Kings. There aren't many people that can fill the shoes of one so embedded with everyone. But I hope that it has been a good year filled with many new experiences and people. One thing is for sure in this upcoming year is that we NEED to hang out more! Going randomly out to parks in the middle of the night with people to do random things, well, that doesn't happen a lot more with the group haha. But I shall now be serious. You have always been one of my closest friends who I know I can talk to...Well...Just about anything from seriousness to randomness. I know you have seen all sides of me (something not many people can boast), and you still strangely don't reject me for it :P. If I ever need to be cheered up, I always know I can talk to you and you will fix the problem. I hope your upcoming year is a great one filled with many good memories and experiences. In the upcoming year, I hope our friendship remains as strong as it's always been and we will have many good memories together! And hopefully this will stay true for many more years to come as well!
Wade: Mr. Wade Davis! It's been fun this last year as seniors! You are always a friend that I can talk to and just chill and always have a good time with. Hopefully this upcoming year we will be able to make plenty of memories and get to chill and stuff. I hope your upcoming year in college is a good one and a very productive one. I pray that all you do this year will be good and hopefully all your steps, God will be behind them. This summer, we (you me and Andrew) need to get a weekend and maybe go somewhere or something! It'd be awesome! From this last year to this year has been such a big thing. There are many memories I remember such as the senior camping trip, chilling with Andrew and doing so many random stuff, etc. Well stay cool and hopefully this year will be a great one!
Aubrey: Well, out of all my friends, I have to thank you as one who made this last year great. I am glad that even with everything that happened between us, we are still friends. I would hate to lose our friendship completely. This last year was full of many great memories with you from SO to prom, to all the randomness :P. I hope your year is a great one as a senior, and I pray that where you go afterwards (college and such) is a great one! I know you will get far, and I hope that with all that you do, you set God as your guide behind it all. Just remember in the toughest of times he is there for you. As well as good friends. Good luck with all that will happen to you this upcoming year, and be sure to stay in touch!
Brittany: Well, you have been introduced to the weird group. But hey, at least we are accepting :P. I know it's been a change moving here, but all I can say is it's a good place to be. Good luck this upcoming year with your endevours and hopefully you will get to meet many new and amazing people through it all! I know this isn't much to say, but with time there will be more to say just by everything that will happen! Always stay fun, and most of all, guide your life with Christ as your light!
Will: Well Will, another year has gone past. You are one of the friends that I can always talk about serious stuff with and just can fully be myself around. I hope all your ventures this year will be great, I know with what you are doing with college, so I pray you can get a great job over this upcoming semester that will work greatly with all that you are doing. Now that your back in town, we need to chill out more often (even though I saw you in Covenent, it IS a long drive haha!). I hope all you do this year will show God's glory through it all and you will be able to witness to so many people just by your actions and by who you are! We need to hang out more and the general stuff we do! And this summer, maybe we can do a camping trip or something. Well, good luck in all you do!
Kristin: Dear sister, I love you so much! I miss you alot with you being at Lee. I know you think that sometimes I just forget about you, but I really don't! I hope and pray this upcoming year will be so miraculous for you in all you do. Hopefully everything will go great this year and you will be able to graduate! If you do, I hope that when you go out into the world you, you stay strong against all the pressures that it will throw at you. Stay strong in all you do, and always let God manifest himself in all your actions and deeds. I hope this upcoming year just is a great one full of memories and events!
Chris: Well, my brother-uncle-grandpa, it's been a fun year. Yes, I know that I probably am one of your weirdest brother-nephew-grandsons, but hey, I think I might be the first (lol). Good luck this upcoming year with all you do with college and everything! And maybe later this year we will both be at Tech (how weird would that be?). I hope that this is a great year for you full of many great memories with everyone, and hopefully you can keep the group sane (we need it alot of the times!). I know that with all the randomness of the group, you at least help balance it out! But anyways, I hope this upcoming year is a great one with all you do!
Alex: Well Alex, as you said this last weekend at Passion, not all rednecks are bad. Your a good example of that (haha!). You add a little bit of country to my "city" life! It's been a cool year with you with all that happened. Graduation, Passion, chilling out, etc. Hopefully this upcoming year we can have some great memories again (and of course, you NEED to go to Passion again with me! :D). Just remember to let God guide your path and the awakening manifest itself in you. I pray that your actions and excitement for Christ will touch many people this upcoming year and let them see who He is! I hope you have a great year and it will be full of so many memories and activities! Stay cool man!
Rob: Rob, out of all the people I know, I just want to say a heartfilled thank-you. You have helped so many youth with your actions and deeds. When Christ tells us to proclaim His name, you are one of the great examples of the people he was talking about. You have helped my spiritual walk so much this last year with the men's Bible study. With all we have discussed, it has helped me grow in my faith so much. I pray that this year will be so blessed for you and your light of Christ will be able to touch multitudes of people. Thanks for being a great friend who I, and so many others, can go to and talk to just about anything. You are a completely amazing friend!
Megan: Dear little sister! Well, another year of dealing with you has passed ;). Haha, just kidding, I love you sister! I hope you have alot of good memories this upcoming year and it's a great one for you! And hopefully I can survive all the shenanigans you do haha! Stay strong and cool! I know this is short, but you know how I feel, but I knew I had to mention my little sister, because you DID make this last year great!
BJ: Cousin! You are completely awesome! It has been an awesome year full great memories with ya! Hopefully this upcoming year will have as many if not many, many more! Also, hopefully we can go to Italy this year or next (just don't let me out in the cold again! haha!). I hope all you do will be great and your year will be full of so many amazing things. This summer, we should go back to the lake and make many more memories (heck, each trip we do, there is always many...Unique, but cool memories). Hopefully you will have some great experiences and your work won't wear you out! Also, we need to hang out a lot more! Maybe we can take a roadtrip soon. that would be AWESOME! Well stay cool cousin!
Ben: Well Barger, it's been fun. You are one of my geek friends who actually understand what I talk about (and when I sometimes talk to you, I'm lost! Haha!)! Hopefully this upcoming year will be full of great times and such. We need to hang out more! Also, next time we do a LAN party, you are SO going down! Good luck this upcoming year when you start college. Hopefully you will do great and not have any struggles! And if you are going to the SPSU campus, maybe we can chill sometime. Stay awesome!
Ells: ELLS! It's been awesome knowing you this year! I have actually managed in being your friend (haha, just kidding, it's been an easy task!)! It's been fun being seniors and everything. Many many memories. Especially the camping trip. It was SO COLD! But fun. Especially the randomness that happened in the guys tent haha! You are always going to be a good friend, and with this upcoming year, we need to stay in touch and chill out more often! Oh, and next time we have a LAN party, BRING YOUR COMPUTER (lol)! I hope you have a great year with school and everything and have many great memories! And maybe this summer, we can introduce you to what camping at the lake is! Stay cool!
Bailey: Well Bailey, how you have survived me this last year, it's still a wonder. I am sorry for creeping you out with some of the stories I said haha. You are an awesome friend to talk to and be random with. And hopefully this upcoming year, you can deal with me more and chill out! I hope you year is a great one filled with many great memories! And if you need someone to ever talk to and be random with, I'm here! And I want to apologize for ruining New Moon this last year. I did think that you had already seen it! Hopefully I added some humor you would have never gotten from it into it haha! Stay cool and in touch!
